Uncle Lee’s Kitchen

Chandler, Arizona. 2022

Uncle Lee’s Kitchen is located in a narrow, tall, and deep store. We separate the long space into two parts with a giant wooden box. Outside the box is the opened ocean dining area, and inside the box is the service core with a more intimate dining area upstairs.

They specialized in traditional spicy chicken hotpot that originated from Chongqing, central China which inspired the design concept. The moment you enter the restaurant, you’ll notice some oversized wooden pieces hanging in the air, representing the action of picking the freshest seafood straight from the ocean wall painting using Asian iconic utensils: chopsticks. We use more wood tones in the 2nd-floor dining area, where the wood ceiling and wood gird panels with LED light strips mimic the experience of dining on a traditional fishing boat.
